Radioactive Frequency (RF)

RADIOACTIVE FREQUENCY (RF)

Forma-I by InMode utilizes bipolar radio frequency (RF) energy to address the symptoms of dry eye disease (DED) caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Intended for use in the periorbital area and upper and lower lids and relieves inflammation of meibomian glands and eye irritation.

HOW DOES RF WORK

-Radio Frequency Energy: Forma-I emits bipolar RF energy, which generates controlled heat in the target area. This heat penetrates the skin and underlying tissues, stimulating natural healing processes.

-Stimulation of Meibomian Glands: The heat from the RF energy helps to liquefy and clear blockages in the meibomian glands. This process restores the normal function of the glands, improving the quality of the oil layer in the tear film and reducing tear evaporation.

-Collagen Production: The RF energy also stimulates collagen production in the surrounding tissues. This can improve the overall health and function of the eyelids, further supporting the treatment of dry eye symptoms. Fine lines and wrinkles may improve too!

BENEFITS FROM RF

Forma-I’s targeted approach offers several benefits for patients suffering from DED and MGD:

- Improved Tear Quality: By clearing blockages in the meibomian glands, Forma-I enhances the oil layer in the tear film, reducing evaporation and improving tear stability.

- Symptom Relief: Patients often experience significant relief from symptoms such as dryness, burning, grittiness, irritation, and discomfort.

- Non-Invasive: Forma I is a non-invasive treatment, meaning it does not require surgery or incisions. This reduces the risk of complications and shortens recovery time.

-Non-drop: Forma-I can eliminate the need for prescription and nonprescription eye drops. Diminishing fine lines and wrinkles as your body produces more collagen.

WHAT ARE RF TREATMENTS LIKE?

First, a thin layer of cooling gel is applied to the treatment area around your eyes and eyelids. A handpiece attached to the RF system and is used to deliver warmth strokes similar to a warm stone massage. As the RF is administered, patients will experience a warm sensation sensation. The area treated may appear flushed and red for a short period of time after the treatment. After the RF treatment is complete, the oil from the glands can be manually expressed to restore normal oil flow in the tear film.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

Although many patients notice improvement in dry eye symptoms after their first or second treatment, an initial series of four RF treatments, performed two to three weeks apart, is recommended. This initial treatment series is designed to help with long-term success in treating both chronic dry eye disease and MGD. After the initial series of RF treatments, maintenance treatments may be provided 1 to 2 times per year, depending on the severity of the condition.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY AFTER TREATMENT?

There is no recovery time after RF treatment. Patients may return to normal activities immediately after treatment. The use of sunblock is recommended on the treated areas, as well as sunglasses.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF RF TREATMENT?

Radiofrequency (RF) treatment for dry eyes is generally safe and minimally invasive, but there are some potential risks:

  • Skin irritation

    • You might experience temporary redness or mild swelling eyelids after treatment which usually resolves in a few hours.

  • Blurred vision

    • You might have blurred vision for a few days after treatment, which is normal and indicates that your meibomian glands are producing more oil than usual.

  • Arcing

    • If the instrument tip is disconnected from the skin while the power is still on, an arc of energy can jump from the tip to the skin, causing a small shock or in rare occasions a small burn.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR IPL TREATMENT?

Candidates for RF treatment are patients with dry eye disease, MGD, blepharitis, or ocular rosacea. The use of RF therapy to rejuvenate the tissues of the eyelids is more direct than topical treatments or oral medication. This therapy decreases or eliminates the inflammation and redness and eyelids. And unlike IPL all skin types (Fitzpatrick Scale Colors) are candidates.

Forma I represents a significant advancement in the treatment of dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction. By harnessing the power of bipolar radio frequency technology, this innovative treatment offers a non-invasive, effective solution for patients seeking relief from these common and often debilitating conditions. With minimal side effects and impressive results, Forma-I is paving the way for better ocular health and improved quality of life. Embrace the future of eye care and experience the relief and comfort that Forma-I can provide.
