Doing a little community service at Oakmont Senior Living. About 6 months ago, I was visiting my 96 yo, mother, in law. Another memory care resident had an amazing pair of glasses. I asked if I could see them (to see what brand they were). I noticed the temples were loose and advised her she better get them tightened before they fell apart at an inopportune moment. She looked at me and with a smile said "honey, it's a little difficult for me to get out to get them tightened ". It struck me that she is right. It was not an easy thing for her to do. She couldn't just run out and get to an optometrist.
It was a cathartic moment when I realized something so simple for me to accomplish was something very difficult for her. It started me on the journey of making presentations on eyecare to senior citizens and doing adjustments to their glasses. I bring an ultrasonic, tighten screws, replace nose pads, and minor adjustments. I answer their questions on eyecare, macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eyes. All things that are easy peasy for me but definitely fulfill a need.
